Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

M4 Recruitment Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 across its UK operations. This commitment is supported by our Directors and embedded within our Environmental Policy and Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. We recognise our responsibility to minimise the environmental impact of our activities and are committed to continuously reducing carbon emissions through the transition to electric vehicles, reducing business travel, supporting flexible working, promoting sustainable travel choices, and improving the environmental performance of our supply chain. We will continue to monitor, measure and report our emissions annually, implement targeted carbon reduction initiatives, and review our progress against established reduction targets to ensure we remain on a clear pathway towards Net Zero by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2016

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations:

2016 has been selected as M4 Recruitment’s baseline year as it represents the earliest year for which a comprehensive record of greenhouse gas emissions is available. The baseline assessment included company vehicle travel, employee vehicle travel (grey fleet), site electricity consumption, business travel, waste and Well-to-Tank emissions, providing a consistent basis against which future reductions can be measured.

Whilst total emissions have increased as the business has grown, emissions intensity has reduced from 2.63 tCO₂e per employee in 2016 to 1.78 tCO₂e per employee in 2025, representing a 32.3% reduction per employee. This demonstrates that M4 Recruitment has successfully reduced the carbon impact of its operations relative to business growth.

Baseline year emissions:

EMISSIONS                               TOTAL (tCO2e)
Scope 1                                      8.04
Scope 2                                      31.97
Scope 3 (Included Sources)       20.59

Total Emissions                          60.60

Reporting Year: 2025

EMISSIONS                               TOTAL (tCO2e)
Scope 1                                      11.47
Scope 2                                      20.09
Scope 3 (Included Sources)       36.19

Total Emissions                          67.75

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets and Science Based Targets to reflect our commitment to our Environmental Targets.

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 30 tCO2e by 2030. This is a reduction of 50% from our base year. In the year of 2040, we project we will have reduced our total Carbon Emissions by 90% to 6 tCO2e. By 2050 we project M4 will be Net-Zero.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2016 baseline.

The organisation provides an incentive for employees to switch to 100% electric vehicles (EV), via the implementation of low-carbon car allowance/salary sacrifice schemes.

Ensuring that new premises occupied by the business facilitate zero-carbon heating and the use of 100% renewable electricity tariffs. Ideally sites would generate renewable energy on-site i.e. via solar photovoltaic panels.

Install EV charging points on site or relocate to premises where these are available on site or nearby.

The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equates to a –32.3% reduction in tCO2e per employee against the 2016 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract.

Future carbon reduction initiatives

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • Transition company vehicles to electric vehicles, achieving 90% EV adoption by 2030 and 100% by 2035. This directly reduces Scope 1 emissions and builds on your existing programme.
  • Implement hybrid and remote working arrangements where operationally suitable to reduce employee commuting and business travel emissions. This is particularly relevant for office-based recruitment staff.
  • Reduce business travel through increased use of video conferencing and digital collaboration tools, minimising unnecessary journeys to client and internal meetings.
  • Introduce a sustainable travel policy, encouraging public transport, car sharing, cycling and walking for commuting and business travel where practicable.
  • Introduce a sustainable procurement and supplier engagement programme, incorporating environmental considerations into the selection and review of suppliers, landlords, serviced office providers and business partners, with a preference for organisations that demonstrate carbon reduction commitments.

These initiatives are expected to further reduce M4 Recruitment Limited’s operational carbon footprint and support the achievement of its interim targets of 30 tCO₂e by 2030, 6 tCO₂e by 2040 and Net Zero by 2050. Progress against these initiatives will be monitored annually through the organisation’s environmental management processes and carbon reporting programme.
